El-Rufai, Wike, Oyetola, Alake, Fagbemi make ministers list

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sent a list of ministerial nominees to the Senate, featuring notable figures from various fields.

Among those nominated are former Kaduna State Governor Nasiru El-Rufai, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, and distinguished medical scholar Ali Pate.

Other nominees include legal luminary Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), economist Olawale Edun, banker Adebayo Adelabu, former Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, APC Women Leader Mrs Betta Edu, Senator Ben Ayade, and eminent journalist Dele Alake, who presently serves as the Special Adviser on Media, Strategy, and Special Duties.

The list was submitted to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in compliance with the constitutional requirement that ministerial nominees should be forwarded to the National Assembly within 60 days after the presidential inauguration, which is approaching this weekend.

The selection showcases a mix of politicians and technocrats, aligning with President Tinubu’s vision of an inclusive and competent government to achieve his ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda for the nation.

The nominees were chosen after extensive consultations with key figures within the ruling APC National Caucus, the Progressive Governors’ Forum, and other party leaders.

While specific portfolios are yet to be confirmed, there are indications that Ali Pate may oversee the Health Ministry, owing to his background as a Harvard professor of medicine and former Minister of State for Health.

Nyesom Wike, known for his legal expertise and previous role as Minister of State for Education, might also be among the nominees with a prominent position.

Similarly, Nasiru El-Rufai, renowned for his previous role as Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and leadership in the APC Panel on Restructuring, is speculated to be assigned to the Power Ministry.

The nomination process appears to be thoughtfully aligned with President Tinubu’s promise of assembling a capable team dedicated to the national interest, focusing on competence and patriotism without any associated controversies.

The screening of the nominees is anticipated to take place next week, as the Senate postponed its recess to accommodate this crucial step in the government formation process.
