Security operatives from the private pipeline surveillance contractor, Abicity Security, in collaboration with Nigerian Army personnel stationed in the Ubagboro community along the Amokpe Escravos Pipeline in Delta State, successfully intercepted boats loaded with illegal crude oil.
Following intelligence gathered on the illegal activities of the oil bunkers, a rigorous manhunt led to the interception of the locally made boats, known as ‘Cotonou Boats,’ which were carrying stolen crude oil. The suspects, upon sighting the patrolling security team, fled into the creeks, abandoning their contraband.
It was also reported that the military officials subsequently set fire to the captured boats loaded with crude oil. In an interview with journalists regarding the interception, Agbonekuya Agbonekuya, an operative of Abicity Security, expressed the firm’s firm commitment to partnering with the government in combating crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism in their designated regions within the Niger Delta.
He assured the NPDC/Seplat JV that, through ongoing collaboration and support, the era of audacious oil theft in the country would soon come to a close.
