Attacks On Opposition Facilities Threat To Democracy – LP

Chieftain of Labour Party, Dr. Kingsley Okundaye said attacks on opposition political party offices send dangerous signal that the 2027 general elections might be marred by widespread violence, intimidation, and disruption across the country.

Okundaye who spoke against the background of attack on Labour Party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday night, and attack the party’s Edo office, as well as that of African Democratic Congress (ADC) also in Edo State, described such scenarios as retrogressive and unfortunate roll back on the progress the nation has made in building a stable, democratic society.

According to him, “the recent incidents of arson and attacks targeting political party offices in Edo State and now Abuja are not isolated acts but symptomatic of a deeper malaise that could undermine the integrity of our upcoming elections.

“We must act decisively to prevent this from becoming a reality, as unchecked aggression erodes public trust in our institutions and discourages civic participation.”

Okundaye who doubles as National Coordinator of the Liberal Progressive and Patriotic Members Congress (LPPMC), called for an urgent measure to arrest the situation, so as to preserve the nation’s hard-won democracy and ensure a peaceful electoral process.

“As the National Coordinator of the Liberal Progressive and Patriotic Members Congress (LPPMC), I hereby call on all relevant law enforcement agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security bodies to swiftly investigate these heinous acts.

“The miscreants responsible for these arsons and attacks, along with their sponsors and enablers must be brought to book without delay,” he demanded.
