“Forgers to your tents’’- Mahdi Shehu Reacts to Nnaji’s Resignation

Political commentator Mahdi Shehu has reacted to the minister’s resignation, describing it as a victory for truth and accountability.

In a statement on his X account, Shehu praised investigative journalists at Premium Times for their role in exposing the alleged forgery. He commended the journalists for their diligence in uncovering the truth, saying the credit for Nnaji’s resignation goes 100% to the Premium Times journalist who spent two years establishing a clear case of forgery against the minister.

Shehu’s statement also called for others implicated in similar scandals to resign, warning that their days are numbered. “Every forger should take note that no matter how long it takes, a day will come when his forgery will be in public domain and shall be put to shame in this world and the next,” Shehu wrote, adding “Forgers to ‘your tents’.” The commentator further demanded that Nnaji refund all monies earned while in office, describing them as proceeds of fraud.

The scandal surrounding Nnaji’s resignation has sparked conversations about the need for stricter vetting of political appointees in Nigeria. His exit adds to a growing list of controversies challenging the administration’s commitment to transparency and integrity in public service. As the government faces mounting pressure to maintain transparency, the Nnaji saga serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability in public office.

Nnaji’s tenure as minister was marked by several notable achievements, including initiatives to promote innovation, science, and technology in Nigeria. However, the allegations of certificate forgery have overshadowed his accomplishments, leading to his eventual resignation. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to the growing demands for accountability and transparency.
