Former Nigerian First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, was conferred with an honorary doctorate degree in Psychology, Guidance, and Counselling by the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt, during its 43rd Convocation Ceremony held on Saturday.
The colourful event drew prominent personalities and jubilant supporters, particularly women’s groups who turned out in large numbers to celebrate the former First Lady’s academic recognition.
Leading the festivities was the Rivers-based group Rivers Women Unite For SIM, headed by Sotonye Toby Fult. A video clip from the occasion, now trending across social media platforms, captured Jonathan in high spirits as she danced gleefully with the women while they sang a controversial celebratory tune: “Na our mama be this ooo…”
In her trademark humour and expressive pidgin English, she rallied the women for a group photo before heading to a post-event feast, saying, “Make una come. Make we snap, let’s go and eat.”
The moment triggered a wave of reactions online. On X (formerly Twitter), Nigerians shared a mix of praise, nostalgia, and satire.
