Immediate past Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom has implored supporters of the party to shun divisive politics in resolving crisis within the party.
Chief Ortom stated this while addressing a delegation of stakeholders from the party in Vandeikya Local Government Area, who sought his wisdom to resolve the lingering disagreements within the party in the area.
He emphasized the need for party stakeholders to close ranks and eschew bitterness for peace and harmony within its ranks.
While admonishing the stakeholders to be their brothers’ keeper, the former governor urged them to take a cue from his experience when he rejoined the PDP in 2018 and apply the same wisdom to move forward.
In a remark, the former gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the party and leader of the delegation, Prof. Dennis Ityavyar, extolled the leadership qualities and political sagacity of Chief Ortom, assuring that they would adhere to his counsel.
Also speaking, two other former gubernatorial aspirants on the platform of the party in 2023, Dr. Paul Angya and Rt. Hon. Terkaa Ucha, emphasized the need to bury all their differences and come together to pursue a common agenda.
The PDP stakeholders appreciated Chief Ortom for playing a key role in ensuring that the 2023 governorship election was zoned to Kunav land and apologized on behalf of the Kunav nation for the negative comments made by their brother, Governor Alia, against him.
They noted that as a beneficiary of Chief Ortom’s gesture to Kunav, Governor Alia needs to thread with caution.
The visit also provided the local government chapter of the party with the opportunity to condole with the former governor over the death of his immediate younger brother, Bernard Ortom.
