The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State has adopted consensus for its candidates for the November 2 Local Government Elections in the state.
The resolution was reached at an expanded stakeholders meeting of the party convened by governor Abdullahi Sule, held at the government house, Lafia, the state capital, yesterday.
The party said the decision was to enhance internal unity, peace and success of the party at the local government polls.
Speaking at the meeting, governor Abdullahi Sule said that the beauty of censorship cannot be overemphasised as it guaranteed success of the party not only at the local elections but at all levels of government.
He said that as the local government election was fast approaching, the chairmanship aspirants should work hard to ensure internal democracy prevails.
The governor stressed that the party must consider prudence, experience, foresight and competence as major crateria to ensure that only credible individuals fly the party’s flag.
Also speaking, speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau urged stakeholders to work together to ensure the overall success of the party in the forthcoming local government election against personal interests.
While emphasizing the need for peace, unity and success of the party in November council election, Jatau admonished contestants and members of the party to play the game by the rules.
Former National Chairman APC, Sen Abdullahi Adamu said the measures adopted by the party remains a unanimous position that would ensure success of the party in future elections, urging ward leaders and other stakeholders to work together for the interest of the party.
On his party, former governor of State, Sen Tanko Almakura, said that consensus was the only sure way for the victory of the party, urging leaders to ensure that one credible candidates fly the party’s.
The Nasarawa state APC Chairman , Dr Aliyu Bello said thanked the stakeholders for their various contributions towards achieving success of the party during the local government election and beyond.
Other speakers including the Minister of State for Police Affairs, Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim, the National Legal Adviser of the of APC, Professor Abdulkarim Kana, National President of ALGON, Aminu Mu’azu Maifata, the Accountant General of the State, Dr Musa Ahmed, I Sen. Solomon Ewuga, Barr. Halilu Envulanza all called for unity of stakeholders for the success of the party.
