Governor Alex Otti of Abia State and the management of Abia State University, ABSU, have resolved the issues of staff verification and outstanding salary accumulated by the previous administration.
In a meeting weekend, between the government and the University management led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Onyemachi Ogbulu, it was confirmed that all the Staff of ABSU, both verified and unverified have been paid their salaries up to June 2024, as directed by the Governor.
The Governor also directed the verification team to relocate to the University to conclude the verification exercise within the week to ensure the seamless payment of salaries without delay or omission of names of staff.
The Governor reassured ABSU Management, Senate and Staff of commitment to pay all outstanding arrears of salaries owed by the immediate past administration and disclosed that a formula has been worked out to offset the N18 billion salary arrears in instalments starting from the end of July for 12 months at N1.5 billion a month.
The Governor reiterated his resolve to implement the Treasury Single Account (TSA) and allayed the fears of the University Management on the TSA model.
He directed the Vice Chancellor to also resolve all issues and complaints against the Abia State University Micro Finance Bank to ensure effective service delivery.
The State Accountant General clarified that no ABSU staff was being short-paid but that the State was applying the proper tax codes.
