Nollywood star and politician, Desmond Elliott heaved a sigh of relief after he was declared the winner of the Lagos State House of Assembly election for Surulere constituency 1.
He scored 17,837 votes to defeat his main challenger Bode Adebayo of the Labour Party who recorded 7,822 votes.
Elliot had come under pressure following his comment during the EndSARS crisis with some youth vowing to ensure he didn’t succeed in his bid to return to the State Assembly.
He made frantic efforts to pacify the electorate in his constituency and he was rewarded with victory on Saturday.
The People’s Democratic Party, Abolaji Thompson came a distant third with 1045 votes in an election that was trailed by controversy as a result of the omission of Olumide Oworu as the candidate of the Labour Party with Adebayo being recognised as the authentic flag bearer of the party by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
