The Super Eagles of Nigeria have officially called off their pay strike and are set to resume full training today, ahead of Thursday’s crucial CAF 2026 World Cup Playoff against Gabon in Rabat, Morocco.
The players had boycotted training on Tuesday to protest unpaid bonuses and appearance fees owed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). However, following an emergency intervention by NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, the dispute appears to have been resolved.
According to team officials, the Super Eagles will train at 5 p.m. local time, though the session will not hold at the match venue—the Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium—where they will face Gabon tomorrow.
“The issue has been resolved,” an NFF official confirmed, adding that the players have agreed to return to camp and focus on preparations for the vital fixture.
Cash Arrives from Abuja
Sources close to the team told Iwitenesslive that a group of federation officials arrived in Rabat earlier today carrying funds meant to settle part of the players’ outstanding entitlements. The players had reportedly given the NFF a 1 p.m. deadline to address their grievances or risk a further escalation of the standoff.
The strike had disrupted the team’s preparations, drawing criticism from fans and concern from football stakeholders who feared that the off-field drama might derail Nigeria’s qualification hopes.
Focus Returns to Football
With the financial dispute seemingly behind them, attention now turns to the pitch as the Super Eagles prepare to face Gabon in what promises to be a fiercely contested playoff semifinal.
Team captain William Troost-Ekong earlier clarified that the players were not demanding any special bonus, but rather the settlement of long-overdue payments for previous international fixtures.
The resolution comes as a relief to supporters and officials alike, who will now be hoping the team can translate unity off the pitch into success on it.
