You can’t invade Nigeria, China tells Trump

China says it firmly stands with Nigeria and has cautioned world powers against interfering in the country’s internal affairs.

In a briefing held on Tuesday in Beijing, the spokesperson of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, called for respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty amid recent comments from the United States suggesting possible military action over alleged attacks on Christians.

Mao praised the Nigerian government under President Bola Tinubu, saying the country is charting a development path that reflects its own national priorities.

“As a strategic partner to Nigeria, China opposes any attempt by foreign forces to use religion or human rights as excuses to interfere in another nation’s domestic affairs or to threaten sanctions and military action,” she said.

Her remarks come after former US President Donald Trump issued a warning that America could consider military intervention if attacks on Christians in Nigeria are not halted. Trump also threatened to cut off American support to Nigeria if the alleged killings continue.
