Damagum’s Purported Suspension Laughable – N’Central PDP

The North Central Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described as laughable and insulting, the purported suspension of the National Chairman of the party, Ambassador Umar Damagum and other National Working Committee (NWC) by four NWC members.

The ZEC in a communique after its meeting on Tuesday, called on the National Vice Chairman (North Central), Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, to distance himself from any act capable of exacerbating the crisis in the party.

Alhaji Mohammed had on Monday, assumed office as acting PDP National Chairman.

But PDP North Central Secretary, Hon. Francis Orogu who read the text of the communique at a press conference, said Damagum cannot be suspended by mere four NWC members and replaced by Alhaji Mohammed.

He accused “some groups of persons within the party” of desperately working to undermine the PDP forthcoming national convention.

The Zonal Secretary called on the NWC to focus on rebuilding confidence of the party and reassure its teeming supporters of its genuine commitment to conducting a credible congress and ushering in a new leadership before the expiration of their tenure.

Orogu said although the North Central has been shortchanged during the micro zoning of offices for the forthcoming National Convention, “Nevertheless, we must not fall or allow ourselves to be drag into the traps set by this egomaniac and selfish politicians cut across the party to finally destroy the hope and future of Nigerian”

He called for wisdom, prudence and strict implementation of the decisions of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) aimed at strengthening the party ahead of the forthcoming National Convention.

The Zonal Secretary warned that if the crisis in the party was resolved it might “in future provide an opportunity for judicial mischief by some corrupt judges as witnessed in the past cases during the 2023 general elections.”

Orogu regretted that in the desperate bid of some individuals to destroy the PDP “they are trying to drag the North Central zone into their schemes, including the purported appointment of Hon. Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, as acting National Chairman.”

He condemned the use of security agencies to break into the PDP National Secretariat on Monday, and said it is unbecoming of a civilise democratic society

“May we use this opportunity to further call on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to please direct the security men not to encourage or aid any type of criminal coup, be it military or political coup, they are both crimes against democracy,” Orogu pleaded.
