ABSU Warns Students Of Imposters

Dean of Faculty of Law at the Abia State University Uturu (ABSU), Prof Collins Chijioke, has warned students of the university, especially Law students who are preparing to go to the Nigerian Law School next session, of the activities of impostors.

Prof. Chijioke said the warning became necessary following cases of a certain man said to be going about looking for prospective Law School students to defraud.

He disclosed that the impostor who gave his name as Sunny, had sent chats to a female Law graduate of the institution, demanding the sum of N100,000 to ensure that she gets a place in ABSU’s list of students going to the Law School.

According to him, the fraudster who claimed to be “practice secretary” for Prof. Chijioke “in charge of sending the list to law school,” told the student that her name was formerly in the list but was replaced with another person for political reasons.

The scammer promised the student that he could relist her only if she could send N100,000 to his account, “because you are an old set.”

He gave her the option of part payment “since it is impromptu, and balance later when the list is out….

“You will pay 60k on the 27th of this month (October). Once the list is out you balance me 40k.”

He subsequently sent account details of a new generation bank.

Prof. Chijioke however, disclaimed the fraudster, and said he had reported the case to the Department of State Services (DSS), who, he stated, are already tracking the fraudster.
