A major mishap occurred Tuesday morning along the Abuja–Kaduna railway when a passenger train derailed, leaving hundreds of travellers stranded.
According to reports from Arise News, the train had departed Abuja around 11 a.m. before veering off the tracks, causing multiple coaches to topple.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as terrified passengers scrambled to safety amid confusion. Some reportedly sustained minor injuries while trying to escape, though authorities have yet to confirm casualties.
Military personnel were swiftly deployed to the site to support evacuation efforts and maintain order. Their presence helped calm tensions as stranded commuters waited anxiously for further directives.
As of press time, neither the Nigerian Railway Corporation nor government officials had issued a formal statement regarding the cause of the derailment or the scale of damage.
The Abuja–Kaduna route, one of Nigeria’s busiest and most heavily secured rail corridors, has previously suffered from security threats, making Tuesday’s derailment a fresh concern for travellers who rely on the service.
