12 things to know about new NNPCL boss, Ojulari

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Engineer Bashir Bayo Ojulari as the new Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited. Here are ten key facts about him:

 

!. Ojulari is from an ancient town known as Share in Ifelodun Local Government, Kwara State

2. He is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

3. He began his career at Elf Aquitaine, becoming the first Nigerian process engineer in the company.

4. In 1991, Ojulari joined Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd as an associate production technologist.

5. He has worked in Europe and the Middle East in various roles, including petroleum process and production engineer, strategic planner, field developer, and asset manager.

6. In 2015, Ojulari was appointed Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), a position he held until his retirement in July 2021.

7. He has served as chairman and member of the board of trustees of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE Nigerian Council) and is a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

8. After retiring from Shell, Ojulari became the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited.

9. In his role at Renaissance, he led a consortium of indigenous energy firms in acquiring Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) for $2.4 billion.

10. He is also the Board Chairman of BAT Advisory & Energy Company—an outfit focused on upstream and midstream investment advisory

11. Ojulari is recognized for his over 34 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, with a proven track record in business leadership and management of petroleum assets.

12. Ojulari, as the Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCO), was one of those quizzed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission( EFCC)over the controversial Malabu oil block (OPL 245) deal.
