The All Progressives Congress (APC) has shown former Minister of Interior and ex- Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola , the exit door over alleged anti-party antics.
Aregbesola, who ruled Osun State for two terms, had been the mastermind behind a breakaway faction within the APC, first known as The Osun Progressives , later rebranded as the Omoluabi Caucus . His rebellious moves, it seems, didn’t sit well with the party’s leadership.
A letter confirming his expulsion surfaced on Wednesday, officially sealing his fate within the APC. The State Executive Committee (SEC , after reviewing a disciplinary committee’s report, accused him of breaching Article 21 of the party’s constitution, which deals with disloyalty and internal sabotage.
The letter minced no words: “Your actions have clearly undermined the unity and integrity of the party. As a result, you are no longer a member of the APC and must cease holding yourself out as one or representing the party in any way.”
Interestingly, Aregbesola’s Omoluabi Caucus had already made the first move, declaring its exit from the APC after a Sunday meeting. The group cited the dwindling influence of the party in Osun as their reason for jumping ship.
