Breaking: ADC Representative Defects to APC

On Tuesday, Idris Salman, a member representing the Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Salman, who was elected in the 2023 National Assembly election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stated that he decided to switch parties after consulting with his constituents.

“I took this decision after wide-range consultation with members of my constituency,” the lawmaker said.

The announcement was made during a plenary session, where the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, read Salman’s letter of defection.

Amid cheers from APC lawmakers, the Minority Whip of the House, Ali Isah, urged the Speaker to declare Salman’s seat vacant, suggesting that he should seek his new party’s nomination if he wishes to return to the legislative chamber.

However, the call was ignored as the House Leader, Julius Ihonvbere, escorted Salman to shake hands with some APC lawmakers present at the plenary.
