A Nigerian lawyer has advised veteran highlife singer Gentleman Mike Ejeagha to take legal action against skit maker Brain Jotter for using his 2010 song in a viral skit, which reportedly generated millions of naira. The skit maker had offered only N2 million as compensation to Ejeagha.
In a post on the X platform, a legal practitioner known as Nupe Lawyer highlighted the issue of copyright infringement and argued that Ejeagha could potentially earn more through a lawsuit than by accepting the proposed compensation. The lawyer emphasized the financial and legal benefits of pursuing legal action over the relatively small compensation offered.
“I hope the man has a good lawyer😀 you can’t use someone’s song for content raking millions and offer to give the man “2 million” as if you are helping the man🤷♂️,” he wrote.
