A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Maitama has granted former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, a N300 million bail following his arraignment on a four-count charge related to printing new Naira notes without following due process.
It was reported that Emefiele pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The bail conditions require Emefiele to provide two sureties, each owning titled property within the Maitama area of the FCT. Additionally, Justice Anenih ordered Emefiele to surrender his travel documents to the court and prohibited him from travelling) outside the country without the court’s permission.
The judge adopted the conditions of a previous bail granted to Emefiele by Justice Hamza Muazu of another FCT High Court, where Emefiele faces a different criminal case. The judge stated that it would suffice if Emefiele could produce certified true copies (CTCs) of the documents he submitted for the earlier bail granted by Justice Muazu.
The trial is scheduled to commence on May 28.
