Three teenage girls hailing from Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, purportedly trafficked to Ghana, have been successfully rescued.
Identified as Ogah Chinecherem from Ohatekwe Amagu, Odor Favour from Abina Amagu, and Osinachi Nweke Umanyi from Ndioduma Omege Echara within the same vicinity, the girls were reportedly saved by the Chairman of Ikwo Development Union, Lagos branch, Mr. Meba Igwe.
Allegedly trafficked by Mrs. Abigail Nweke, also from Ikwo Local Government Area, the girls were handed over to an individual from Cross River, whose name remains undisclosed, for transportation to Ghana.
The teenagers departed from their respective homes in January of this year. Initially routed through Lagos en route to Ghana, their journey was intercepted by immigration officials during border patrol.
Upon learning of the situation, Chairman Meba Igwe intervened and secured their rescue.
Subsequently, the girls were delivered to the Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Barrister Sunday Nwankwo, at his office in the local government headquarters on Wednesday.
Nwankwo lauded Igwe’s swift action in rescuing the girls and emphasized the importance of parental vigilance in safeguarding their children from such perilous situations.
He pledged to facilitate the girls’ enrollment in appropriate educational or vocational programs.
The rescued girls were then entrusted to their respective Ward Councilor’s for reunification with their families.
