The Super Eagles are gearing up for a potential confrontation with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over unpaid bonuses and allowances, accumulating from as many as 26 matches worth millions of dollars. This issue has raised concerns about the players’ commitment to the national team.
The unpaid bonuses and allowances date back to 2018 World Cup qualifiers and friendlies extending to 2021.
Sources said the players, frustrated by unfulfilled promises, are now expressing their discontent and are reportedly “ready for a big fight” to ensure their dues are settled.
“We have had only promises on the bonuses, but nothing has happened. This cannot continue, and many of us now want these monies paid,” a player told Scorenigeria.com.ng
Sources reveal that the players are owed for matches played over the years, with the outstanding payments covering various competitions and friendly encounters. Despite several meetings between the NFF leadership and the team, a resolution to the payment issue has proven elusive.
The sources said the lingering problem is affecting team morale and performance, with speculation about players holding back their full commitment due to the unresolved financial matters. Officials are now exploring avenues to persuade the Federal Government to intervene and settle the outstanding debts.
